Sarpagandha is found in India, Srilanka, Burma, Thailand and Pakistan. Sarpagandha is an evergreen, perennial shrub. The leaves are 7-10cm longs, spear shaped. The flowers are white and violet in colour and 1 inch long. It contains nectar at the deep of the corolla tube. The roots of this herb are tuberous with pale brown color. Its roots and leaves are used mainly for therapeutic purposes. Sarpagandha is mainly used to treat hypertension and insomnia (lack of sleep). It is also used to treat asthma, stomachache, mental illness, mental disorders and snake bite.
