Schizophrenia is a long term mental disorder characterized by hallucination and delusion. In Ayurveda it is known as unmada. Schizophrenia patient may have difficulty distinguishing between what is real and what is imaginary.
The signs and symptoms are very substantially in different types of schizophrenia. The patient is unable to sleep, talks and acts confusedly and sometimes becomes violent. The cause of schizophrenia is still unclear, but it can be heredity or biological.
Brahmi, jatamnmsi, sarpagandha, shankhapushpi, hingu, lashuna, vacha, yastimadhu are useful in schizophrenia. Sarpagandha ghanavati, saraswata churan, saraswatarishta, lashunadyaghrita are some ayurvedic formulations for this conditation.
