It is an acute infectious diseases characterised by the swelling of the parotid glands, near the ears. In Ayurveda this is known as pashana gardabha.
The swelling of the parotid gland is usually the first indication of the diseases. This may be preceded by a day or two of pain and stiffness in the region near the ears. The patient may fell feverish. There might be shivering and sour throat. In the beginning, only one gland is affected. Testicles also get inflamed as a complication of this diseases.
